Sangamitta day

Today is Unduwap Full Moon Poya Day. It is the last Poya Day of the year.
It reminds all Sri Lankan Buddhists of the importance of this Poya, specially, based on three reasons. The arrival of Sangamitta Theri in Sri Lanka with a Bo sapling from the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi from India is the main incident that took place on Unduwap Full Moon Poya Day. 
On Unduvap Full Moon Poya Day pious devotees flocked to Anuradhapura to pay homage to sacred Bo tree brought from India on this special Poya Day.

Various religious programmes are taking place to mark this religious day. The 106th in the Amaadam Sisilasa Dhamma Sermon was conducted today at the President’s House in Kandy today. The event took place under the guidance of Chief Incumbent of the Raja Maha Vihare at Kotugodella in Kandy, the Ven. Konwewe Sunanda Thera. Presudent Rajapaksa, First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and family members joined in listening to the Dhamma sermon.

Meanwhile, ITN’s “Savanek Res” programme was brought live today from Devramvehera in Pannipitiya. Sil and Meditation programmes were organized at the Temple throughout today.
The Sasanaloka programme mooted by Lakhanda Radio was also organized at Devramvehera. The offering of a set of dhamma books and other needs to Samanera monks took place on the occasion. Parents of the Samanera monks also came in for acclamation. ITN Chairman Rosmand Senaratne and Deputy General Manager of Lakhanda Radio Ashoka Karunanayake were present.
