SriLankan Airlines will join the Oneworld alliance
The final entry in the SriLankan Airlines Oneworld - the third largest airline alliance in the world - will take place on May 1 this year.
Initially joining the Sri Lankan air carrier to Oneworld was scheduled for early this year, but due to some formalities process was delayed for several months. After the date announced by other members of the alliance, including the Russian S7 Airlines, will receive two new directions: Hambantota (a port city on the southern coast of Sri Lanka) and Tiruchchirappalli (an ancient city in South India). In addition, SriLankan Airlines will become the first South Asian participant Oneworld, as other regional bidder - Jet Airways - while leaning toward SkyTeam.
Recall that the alliance Oneworld, founded in 1999, now includes carriers such as Air Berlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7 Airlines. In addition to the SriLankan Airlines this year they will join the ranks of the Brazilian airline TAM Brazilian Airlines
